Grace Algecera started piano at age five, and picked up other instruments soon after. On clarinet she won concert and first chairs at the top regional high school bands including Olympic Honors Conference, All South Jersey and All State Bands. She also took part in one of only two home-school bands in the nation. Regardless of a scattered, younger crew ages 5-18, they still unified to place top two in the Dixie Classic Festival High School Jazz category. During high school, Ms. Algecera mainly focused on piano, studying with Dr. Raffi Besalyan and Dr. Veda Zuponcic from Rowan University, where she played in summer music festivals. She later studied piano with Dr. Richard Anderson at BYU and enjoyed learning from the distinguished faculty and world-renowned guest artists there. Ms. Algecera took an “Austrian Pilgrimage” during her college career to learn from faculty at the University of Vienna and the Vienna Konservatorium. She finished her BM in Piano Performance at BYU in 2016, and was inducted into three honor societies. Ms. Algecera is an advocate of new Filipino arts and owns a small, growing library of Filipino and other Asian speculative fiction. She also loves the banjo, Mars Volta, and teaching music; helping young students to think and feel more deeply through the arts.
